On Saturday 30th June 2012 I will direct a performance of Blow's Venus and Adonis for Sforza Baroque. The earliest English opera, Venus and Adonis was composed in utterly scandalous circumstances, being written for performance in the court of King Charles II, with his mistress Moll Davis as Venus and their illegitimate nine-year-old daughter as Cupid. Venus and Adonis dances in glorious 17th century style, sometimes sensuous, sometimes tragic, but always a great pleasure both to perform and to hear.
Hosted by the Devonia Concert Series, the performance begins at 7:30pm, The Polish Church, 2 Devonia Rd, Islington N1 8JJ. Bookings can be made here.
***UPDATE*** THIS PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Sforza Baroque apologises for any inconvenience.
