I'm looking forward to commencing rehearsals with students of the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts this Thursday - I'll be preparing the combined might of the WAAPA vocal department for performances of Duruflé's magnificent Requiem and the Gloria of John Rutter. Should be a good shout!
Phew! What a busy couple of months. The Perth International Arts Festival is just about to kick off and I'll be singing in this incredible re-imagining of the Gesualdo Tenebrae Responsoria at UWA's Winthrop Hall with the St George's Cathedral Consort, directed by James Berlyn and with lighting designed by French new media artist Benjamin Bergery. Extraordinary. The performance will run for six nights, of which one will be videoed by the ABC. Expect to hear excerpts on ABC radio as well!
I was enormously fortunate recently to rehearse the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra at their 2013 conductor workshop. Each of us was given 50 minutes to do as we liked with an outstanding professional ensemble - a true privilege and an outstanding learning opportunity, for which I am very grateful. Beethoven's Egmont Overture and the first movement of Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony will always remind me of the first time I stood in front of an Australian orchestra. Thanks WASO!
